What Can You Do To Drive Safely In Heavy Fog?

It doesn’t matter if you’re one of our Louisiana readers or live in another part of the country, you know that road conditions can change without notice. One second the weather is clear and you’re feeling good. The next second, however, things can take a turn for the worse.

If you find yourself driving in heavy fog, you need to change your approach to ensure your safety. Here are some things you absolutely need to do:

– Slow down. Since visibility is reduced, you need to slow down as to give yourself more time to stop.

– Use your headlights. This makes it easier to see the road in front of you. Furthermore, it helps other drivers locate your vehicle.

– Stick to the right pavement line. Since you don’t want to hug the center line, as this increases the chance of a head-on collision, it’s best to use the right pavement line as a guide.

Along with the above, there’s one other thing worth noting: You should never stop on the road in heavy fog. Since others can’t see you clearly, it could lead to a serious accident.

When you find yourself driving in heavy fog, don’t hesitate to slow down and take your time. If another driver makes a mistake that causes an accident, attempt to pull your car off the road and then call for an ambulance. If this isn’t possible – maybe because you’ve been injured – stay where you are until help arrives.

Remember, just because you’re driving safely in heavy fog doesn’t mean every other driver is doing the same. You do have a right to seek compensation from a negligent driver that caused the accident.
